GE repair, done properly.

GE appliance repair across the GTA — often same-day. Licensed and insured.

GE (General Electric) has a long history in North American kitchens — common in older homes, builder installs, and across all price points from value (GE) to premium (GE Profile, Café). Acquired by Haier in 2016, the GE Appliances business continues to make appliances in the US and Mexico. Parts are widely available and pricing is fair. Modern GE appliances typically last 10–15 years with normal use.

01 · About

About GE

GE Appliances was part of General Electric for over a century before being sold to Haier (Chinese appliance giant) in 2016. The brand is one of the most recognised in Canadian kitchens, with strong presence in builder/contractor installs and apartment buildings. The product lineup spans value (basic GE), mainstream (GE Profile), premium design-forward (Café), and high-end (Monogram, sold as a separate brand). Reliability is generally solid, with GE Profile and Café earning particularly good marks in consumer testing.

02 · Common issues

Issues we often see on GE appliances

These are the failures owners report most often. We service the full range of repairs on GE — these are just the most frequent.

  1. 01

    F-codes on the display

GE uses an F-code system to indicate specific faults — F1 = control board, F3 = oven sensor, F7 = function key, etc. The code points at a known component or condition. Tell us the code at booking time.

  2. 02

GE Profile fridge ice maker (Opal nugget and others)

GE makes the Opal nugget ice machine (popular separate countertop unit) and integrated French-door ice makers in Profile fridges. Both have known fragility around the fill systems and ejector motors. Routine replacement when they fail.

  3. 03

GE Café range knobs and igniters

GE Café (premium design line) ranges use brass knobs that can loosen with use and gas igniters that fail similar to other brands at 6–10 years. Both are routine replacement items.

  4. 04

    Front-load washer door boot

GE front-load washers (GFW family) share the broader front-load weakness around the door boot — eventually nicked or worn, leaks develop. Inspect annually; replacement is straightforward.

  5. 05

    Dishwasher pump and motor failures

Older GE dishwashers (Hotpoint-era and early GE Profile) had reliability issues with the wash pump/motor assembly. Newer GE dishwashers (post-Haier) have addressed many of these. Pump replacement is routine on older units.

03 · Models

GE product lines we service

Common product families and series we encounter in the field. We service older and current models in each line.

GTW / GFW washers

GTW = top-load, GFW = front-load. Profile (GTWP / GFWP) variants add features and upgraded finishes.

GTD / GFD dryers

GTD = electric, GFD = gas. Often matched with the GTW/GFW washers.

GFE / GSS fridges

GFE = French-door, GSS = side-by-side. Profile (GFEP) and Café (CYE) variants add premium finishes.

JGB / JGS ranges

JGB = gas freestanding, JGS = gas slide-in. JB / JS prefix for electric. Profile and Café variants for premium tiers.

GDT / GDP dishwashers

GDT = mainstream, GDP = Profile (third rack, quieter, more features).

Café series (CYE, CDT, etc.)

GE's premium design-forward line. Available in custom hardware finishes (brushed copper, matte black). Mechanically share Profile platforms but with upgraded aesthetics.

Oven temperature sensor (RTD) issue
F4
Shorted oven sensor
F5
Door lock issue
F7
Function key stuck

06 · Parts

Parts & repair notes for GE

GE parts are widely available across Canada — among the better stocked of all brands due to GE's long market presence. Pricing is fair, similar to Whirlpool and Frigidaire. Café-series parts (premium finishes, custom hardware) are slightly more specialty and can cost more. Monogram (the high-end GE Appliances brand) parts are specialty-order and more expensive — we service Monogram but expect longer lead times and higher part costs.

08 · FAQ

Common questions

Specific to GE repair.

Why does my GE oven keep showing F3?
F3 on a GE oven typically means a fault with the oven temperature sensor (RTD). The sensor reads the cavity temperature; when it fails or its wiring is damaged, the oven either doesn't heat to set point or won't heat at all. Routine replacement.
How long does a typical GE fridge repair take?
Most repairs are 1–2 hours once we have the right part. Defrost system, fan, and door gasket repairs are typically same-visit. Sealed-system work (compressor, refrigerant) takes longer and sometimes requires a return visit if parts need to be ordered.
How long should a GE Profile range last?
13–17 years typically. The convection fan motor and bake element are the most common wear parts in the back half of that lifespan.
Do you service GE Monogram?
Yes. Monogram is the high-end GE Appliances brand (pro-style ranges, built-in column fridges). Parts can be specialty-order and more expensive than standard GE. We'll quote in writing before any work.
Why does my GE Profile ice maker keep failing?
GE's French-door integrated ice makers share the broader French-door industry weakness around fill tube freezing and ejector motor failures. Routine replacement, similar to Samsung and Whirlpool French-door fridges.
Why does my GE dishwasher have water at the bottom?
A small amount (a half-inch or less) is normal and keeps the pump seals from drying out. More than that means the drain isn't fully clearing — usually a clogged filter, clogged drain hose, or a failed drain pump. Routine diagnostic.
Can you service old GE Hotpoint-branded appliances?
Yes. Hotpoint is the budget GE Appliances brand and uses GE-platform parts (usually older platforms). Parts availability is good for most components.
How do I find my GE model number?
For most GE appliances, the model number is on a sticker inside the door frame (visible when the door is open) or on the back of the appliance. Photographing the sticker is the fastest way to give us what we need.
What's the warranty on GE appliances?
Terms vary by model and change over time — check your warranty card or GE's site for current details. Some components on Profile and Café carry extended limited coverage. We can repair the appliance whether it's in or out of warranty.
